Uganda Gorilla & Shoebill Adventure

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be warmly received by your driver-guide and transferred to your hotel. After some time to refresh, your adventure begins in the late afternoon with a special visit to the Mabamba Wetlands at 5:00 PM. Here, you will set out in a traditional motorized dugout canoe, gliding quietly through dense papyrus channels in search of the legendary Shoebill Stork—one of Africa's most iconic and elusive birds. Along the way, you may also encounter papyrus specialists such as the Papyrus Gonolek, Swamp Flycatcher, and the White-winged Swamp Warbler. With over 50 bird species recorded in just a few hours, Mabamba offers one of the richest birding introductions in Uganda. Return to Entebbe in the evening for a relaxed dinner and overnight.

After an early breakfast, transfer to Entebbe Airport for your scheduled domestic flight at 7:00 AM. The scenic journey takes you over lush landscapes and the Virunga volcanoes before landing in Kisoro at 9:30 AM. Your driver-guide will transfer you to Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge, located just outside the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. This intimate lodge offers sweeping views of the forested hills and is perfectly placed for gorilla adventures. In the late afternoon, you will enjoy a guided community walk, meeting local families and learning about the traditions, music, and lifestyle of the people who live alongside the gorillas. This cultural exchange adds depth and meaning to your journey.

Wake up early to the sounds of the forest and enjoy a hearty breakfast. Transfer to the Bwindi briefing point, where park rangers will prepare you for the trek. Your gorilla trekking adventure begins as you hike through thick rainforest. The terrain can be steep, but the reward is extraordinary: a rare encounter with a mountain gorilla family. Spend a magical one hour observing their behavior. After this unforgettable wildlife encounter, return to your lodge to relax.

This morning offers another opportunity to trek into the forest for a second gorilla experience. Each trek is different, as the gorillas move daily, and meeting a different family can reveal new dynamics and behaviors. The second trek deepens your connection to these gentle giants and increases the chances of witnessing special interactions. Return to the lodge in the afternoon to rest, enjoy the forest views, and celebrate your gorilla encounters.
