Bwindi Gorilla Express

Depart Entebbe very early for the long drive southwest to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest — approximately 450 kilometres and eight to nine hours through Uganda's lush countryside and the Kigezi Highlands. Alternatively, take a domestic flight to Kihihi or Kisoro airstrip (1 hour), dramatically shortening the journey. Arrive at your forest lodge in the evening, nestled at the edge of the gorilla habitat.

The main event of your trip. After a 7:30 AM briefing at the park headquarters, trek into the dense, misty forest with experienced rangers and trackers. Following fresh gorilla trails through thick undergrowth, you will locate a habituated gorilla family and spend one precious hour observing them — silverbacks beating their chests, mothers nursing infants, and juveniles playing in the branches. Return to your lodge exhilarated.

Choose between a second gorilla trekking permit (if pre-booked) for another unforgettable encounter with a different gorilla family, or embark on the Batwa Trail — a guided forest walk with the indigenous Batwa pygmy community who lived in these forests for millennia. The Batwa share their traditional hunting techniques, medicinal plant knowledge, and forest songs. Afternoon at leisure at the lodge.

After breakfast, depart Bwindi for the return journey to Entebbe. If flying domestically, a short transfer to the airstrip gets you back to Entebbe by midday. If driving, the full-day journey retraces the scenic highland route, arriving in Entebbe by evening. Transfer to the airport for your departure flight, carrying the memory of looking into a gorilla's eyes — an experience that stays with you forever.
