Shira Camp sits on the high-altitude Shira Plateau at approximately 3,840 metres on Mount Kilimanjaro, used by climbers on the Machame and Lemosho routes. The exposed volcanic plateau is one of Kilimanjaro's most dramatic landscapes — a vast moorland dotted with giant lobelia and senecio plants under enormous African skies. On clear evenings, climbers witness spectacular sunsets with Kibo Peak silhouetted above. Basic camping facilities include designated tent pitches and shared ablution blocks. The camp serves as a critical acclimatization stop where trekkers spend time adjusting to altitude before pushing toward Lava Tower and the Barranco Wall on subsequent days. The sense of remoteness and scale at Shira is unmatched on the mountain.
