Grumeti River Camp

Grumeti River Camp, today operated by andBeyond as Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge, lies in the Western Corridor of Serengeti National Park, on the banks of a channel of the Grumeti River. It is one of the best-placed camps for the Great Migration's western crossing: around June and July the herds of wildebeest and zebra gather along the Grumeti, where some of the largest Nile crocodiles in Africa wait in the river. Hippos are resident in front of the camp, and the riverine forest and surrounding plains support lion, leopard, elephant, giraffe and colobus monkeys, as well as prolific birdlife. The lodge has a relaxed, contemporary style, with suites that open onto private decks facing the river, a swimming pool and open-sided lounge and dining areas where guests can watch wildlife come down to drink. The Western Corridor is quieter than the central Serengeti for much of the year, and a stay here pairs well with the northern or central Serengeti on a migration safari.
