Sibyinyo Lodge

The beautiful Wilderness Sabyinyo lies hidden amongst the misty foothills of the spectacular Virungas—a dramatic chain of eight volcanoes that lie in what is thought to be the heart of the legendary land of King Solomon’s mines. Heavily surrounded by the dense, tropical forests of Rwanda, this peaceful lodge serves as an ideal sanctuary after a long day of trekking. Guests can unwind in their choice of hand-built stone cottages or expansive suites, each thoughtfully designed with a large sitting room, a crackling open fireplace to take the chill off the mountain evenings, a stylish ensuite bathroom, and a private veranda. The classic stone buildings blend seamlessly into the volcanic landscape, featuring traditional terracotta tile roofs, rich stone accents, and polished wooden floors that add a touch of warmth to the interior. Scrumptious menus showcasing fresh, locally sourced ingredients can be savoured in the cosy main dining room or enjoyed al fresco on the outside deck, which offers breath-taking, unobstructed views of the soaring Virunga volcanoes stretching across the horizon. Beyond the exceptional hospitality at the lodge, nearby adventures center around the bucket-list hikes into the Parc National des Volcans in search of the majestic mountain gorilla families and the rare, enchanting golden monkey. For those wanting a deeper connection to the area, the lodge can arrange authentic cultural excursions to meet the local community, as well as rewarding bird watching outings, rugged mountain biking trails, and guided visits to a multitude of scenic destinations like the twin lakes nearby.
