Porini Amboseli Camp
Porini Amboseli Camp
Porini Amboseli Camp is the only camp in Selenkay Conservancy, a 12,500-acre private reserve north of Amboseli National Park that Gamewatchers Safaris leases from the local Maasai community. No other tourist vehicles are allowed into Selenkay, so drives on the conservancy are yours alone. There are ten tents, including one family tent, for up to 18 guests, each with a private veranda, a flush toilet and a safari shower. Elephants came back to Selenkay after an absence of 20 years once the conservancy was set up. Day and night game drives run in 4x4s with a window seat for everyone and a two-person team of driver-guide and spotter, and there are walks with Maasai guides, a walk to a Maasai village, bush lunches and stargazing. A full day in Amboseli National Park, with Kilimanjaro behind the elephant herds, is included with one day's park fee. The camp is Gold eco-rated and solar powered, with no permanent structures, and US$5 per person per night goes to the Wildlife Habitat Trust. Children over eight are welcome. The camp closes from 15 April to 31 May and is about four hours from Nairobi by road via Emali.
