Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp

andBeyond Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp stands on a private concession at the foot of the Oloololo Escarpment in the western Maasai Mara, beside the Saparingo River and bordering the Mara Triangle. Kichwa Tembo means 'head of the elephant' in Kiswahili. The land is leased from Maasai landowners rather than part of the reserve, so as well as game drives into the Mara Triangle, guests can go on guided bush walks and night drives, which the reserve does not permit. The camp has 34 tents of 52 m², eight of them Superior View tents, plus three family tents made of two linked tents each. A rim-flow pool sits under shade trees, meals are served in a split-level dining area around an open kitchen, and the camp grows its own vegetables. Every tent has a pair of Swarovski binoculars. From July to October the migration herds are in the Mara, where there are more than ten regular river crossing points, and andBeyond refreshed the tents and bathrooms in 2026. Scheduled flights from Nairobi Wilson land twice a day at Kichwa Tembo's own airstrip after about an hour, followed by a 30-minute drive. andBeyond's smaller Bateleur Camp shares the same concession.
