Summit Africa's highest peak, then safari on the plains below
Combine mountain climbing with wildlife safari
This is the ultimate East African adventure: climb Mount Kilimanjaro to Uhuru Peak at 5,895 metres, then descend into the wildlife-rich plains of northern Tanzania for a classic safari. Two bucket-list experiences in a single trip. The climbing portion follows one of Kilimanjaro's established routes — Machame, Lemosho, or Rongai — chosen based on your fitness, acclimatisation needs, and scenic preferences. Over five to eight days, you ascend through five distinct climate zones: cultivated farmland, lush rainforest, heather moorland, alpine desert, and the arctic summit zone with its iconic glaciers. Certified mountain guides, porters, and a camp cook support you every step. After summiting and descending, you transfer to the northern safari circuit for three to five days of game drives. The contrast is staggering: from ice and rock at Africa's rooftop to the golden grasslands of the Serengeti, the wildlife-packed Ngorongoro Crater, and the elephant corridors of Tarangire. Having tested yourself against the mountain, the safari feels like a well-earned celebration. This combination itinerary requires good physical fitness but no technical climbing skills. We include a rest day between the climb and the safari, with the option of a hot-spring soak near Arusha to ease tired muscles.
