Sweetwaters Serena Camp is the oldest place to stay on Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a tented camp run by Serena Hotels with Mount Kenya on the skyline. Its 56 en-suite tents are split between the main camp and the Morani Wing, and some face a waterhole that is floodlit at night, where Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe and now and then a white rhino come to drink. The Morani Deluxe tents are the largest, at 39 m², and look towards Mount Kenya; one is adapted for wheelchair users. From camp you can join day and night game drives, guided bush walks, morning lion tracking and visits to the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, and there are bush breakfasts, sundowners and wildlife talks in the evening. The camp has a heated pool, the Maisha Spa and a family jacuzzi, and children of every age are welcome, with triple tents, cots and babysitting. Serena holds an Ecotourism Kenya eco-rating here and runs part of the camp on solar power. Nanyuki airstrip is about 25 minutes' drive away, which makes Sweetwaters an easy first stop in central Kenya.
