Elephant Bedroom Camp
Elephant Bedroom Camp
Elephant Bedroom Camp is an unfenced tented camp inside Samburu National Reserve, under doum palms on the bank of the Ewaso Nyiro river, run by the Kenyan company Atua Enkop. The name is earned. Bull elephants regularly walk through camp to eat the dates that fall from the palms, and an askari walks guests to and from their tents when the elephants are close. Every tent has a private plunge pool on its deck: the standard tents sleep up to three, and the deluxe tents add an outdoor shower, a bath and a bigger deck. The camp is growing, with four more deluxe tents and a swimming pool due by the end of 2026. Meals are served in an open dining tent or down by the river. Game drives use open 4x4s with no more than six guests, and walks with armed rangers, bush breakfasts, sundowners and Samburu cultural talks can be added. The camp runs on solar power and is managed by people from the Samburu community. Children are welcome, though the camp prefers them to be over five and parents must stay with them at all times. Fly to Kalama airstrip and drive 30 to 60 minutes, or drive about five hours from Nairobi.
