Overview

Lake Naivasha Country Club

Lake Naivasha Country Club is one of the oldest hotels on the lake, run today by MGM Muthu Hotels as Muthu Lake Naivasha Country Club. It opened in 1937 as Sparks Hotel, where passengers on the Imperial Airways flying boats between Britain and South Africa came ashore, and the flying boats kept landing on the lake until the late 1940s. The 50 rooms, suites and cottages are spread across 55 acres of lawns shaded by acacias and fever trees, and every room has its own patio. The club has a private jetty, so boat trips to see hippos and birds, sundowner cruises and the short crossing to Crescent Island, 2.3 km away, for a guided walk among giraffe and zebra all start from the garden. There is an outdoor pool with a spa beside it, a restaurant, a terrace and a tavern bar. Hell's Gate National Park and the Crater Lake Game Sanctuary are each 18 km away, which makes the club a relaxed base for a night or two between Nairobi and the Maasai Mara.
