When is the best time to see the Great Migration?
The Mara River crossings happen primarily in July through September, making this the most dramatic period. However, the migration is year-round — calving season in January-February in the southern Serengeti is equally spectacular. We'll recommend the best timing based on what you want to see.
Will I definitely see a river crossing?
While wildlife can never be guaranteed, our 20+ years of experience gives us a 90%+ success rate for witnessing crossings during July-September. We use a network of scouts and real-time radio communication to track herd movements. We also spend multiple days in the migration zone to maximize your chances.
How close will I get to the animals?
Our vehicles position within 20-50 meters of crossing points and grazing herds. We use custom-modified Land Cruisers with pop-up roofs for 360-degree viewing and photography. The animals are completely habituated to vehicles.
What camera gear do you recommend?
A 100-400mm zoom lens is ideal for crossings. Bring a wide-angle for landscape shots and camp atmosphere. We provide bean bags for camera stabilization. Our guides are photography-aware — they position the vehicle for optimal light angles.
How far in advance should I book?
For July-September migration safaris, we recommend booking 6-12 months ahead. Premium camps at river crossing points sell out fastest. However, we sometimes have last-minute availability due to cancellations — contact us to check.
