Hiking Safari up Africa’s
highest mountain, a challenge
for the fit and adventurous to
reach the snow-capped summit of
Mount Kilimanjaro. Discounted
for groups of 2 or more.
Day 1:
Marangu Gate to Madara Camp
Following breakfast, we will
depart Arusha and drive to
Kilimanjaro National Park, where
you will be met by beautiful
views. Upon arrival and
registration with the park
staff, we will begin the
adventure of the ascent on Mt.
Kilimanjaro, the tallest peak in
Africa and the tallest
freestanding mountain in the
world! We will proceed through
the Mandara rain forest, then
will rest for the evening at the
Mandara encampment, located at
9,000 ft (2,700m) on the
mountain.
Day 2:
Mandara Camp to Horombo Camp
Breakfast at the camp is served
very early and start your trek
through the forest border where
on a clear day you get the first
gorgeous views of Mawenzi
(5,149m) and the southeastern
slopes of Kilimanjaro.
Passing through the Glades, we
will follow a trail along the
open moorlands to our evening
destination of the Horombo
encampment at 12,000 ft
(3,750m).
Day 3:
Acclimatization Day at Horombo
Hut
Day spent at Horombo Hut for
acclimatization. Day trip to
Mawenzi Tarn Hut (4,330m) Lunch,
Dinner and overnight at Horombo
Hut.
Day 4:
Horombo Camp to Kibo Camp, Uhuru
Peak
The trekking to Kibo hut is
through semi-desert landscape of
the saddle, between the peaks of
Kibo and Mawenzi. You get to see
the middle Red hill, West lava
hill and East lava hill to the
east and the Barafu hut camp
(4,600m) to the west. We will
stop for the evening at the Kibo
encampment located at 15,000 ft
(4,700m). Here we prepare for
our midnight ascent to Uhuru
Peak.
Day 5:
Uhuru peak to Horombo Camp
At midnight with instructions
from your guide and depending on
the size of the group, you start
the first section of the ascent
which will take about three
hours climbing up a winding
rocky foot path to Hans Meyer
cave (5,150m). Because of the
altitude, summit night is slow,
strenuous and dizzying, with a
short rest at Hans Meyer cave
you continue for another three
hours up the steepest section to
Gilman’s Point (5,685m). You can
have another short rest and then
carry on along the crater rim
for about 45 minutes to Stella
point. Temperature on the summit
can be as low as minus 30 degree
centigrade with wind and chill.
About an hour past Stella Point
you will be rewarded with the
summit of Kilimanjaro and Uhuru
peak (5,896m). The highest point
on the African Continent. The
morning offers the ultimate
showstopper – stunning aerial
views of the spectacular
glaciers illuminated by a
hypnotic sunrise experienced
only on the roof of Africa -
Kilimanjaro. Most climbers spend
a few minutes on the summit
taking photos before the
three-hour walk back to Kibo
Hut. (4,703m) For a short rest
and then proceed down to Horombo
Hut (3,720m) for dinner and
overnight.
Day 6:
Horombo Camp to Marangu Gate and
Arusha or Moshi
Our journey downwards brings us
past the Mandara encampment and
back to our entrance point of
the park’s gate. Climbers will
then be presented with a
certificate of achievement for
the successful climb of Mt.
Kilimanjaro!
